Clergeau (1898-1967) studied in the most famous and oldest École des Beaux-Arts in France which is the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris before becoming an art professor and opening a studio in Paris-Montparnasse.
Painting must have been acquired and gifted as per the writting at the back, “To my friend Denise - In memory of our sincere friendship which I hope will last a life time. Very affectionately. Saint-Cyr sur Loire the 14th May 1948”
